Big Lime Triathlon returns in expanded format

Hartlepool’s popular Big Lime Triathlon will return this summer in an expanded format that will offer participants a range of competitive options.

Hartlepool Borough Council's Active Hartlepool Service has joined forces with specialist company Wild Deer Events to stage the event on Sunday 11th August.

This year – for the first time – a standard distance triathlon will take place alongside the usual sprint triathlon, and there will be three open water swims of varying distances.

Councillor Gary Allen, Chair of the Council’s Adult and Community Based Services Committee, said: “Following the tenth anniversary of the Big Lime Triathlon in 2023, we are delighted to have joined forces with Wild Deer Events to come up with an expanded format that will be bigger and better than ever.

“I would encourage people to get involved in what promises to be a great day by signing up to the challenge that best suits them as soon as possible.”

Wild Deer Events have a wealth of experience in delivering highly successful events, and in fact they have more than 40 scheduled for this year, including triathlons at Essex, Sheffield, Windermere and Derwent Water.

Managing Director Dan Flint added: “We are delighted to be working closely with the Council. The Big Lime Triathlon is already very well regarded and a popular fixture on the national triathlon calendar, and we hope to build on the event’s reputation to make it an even bigger success.”

The standard distance triathlon will comprise a 1,500m swim, a 40km cycle ride and a 10km run. The sprint triathlon will see competitors take part in a 750m swim, a 20km cycle ride and a 5km run.

The separate open water swims will cover distances of 350m, 750m and 1,500m.

All competitors will receive an event medal and merchandise, along with a snack and drink on the day.
