A D-Day anniversary message from the Lord-Lieutenant
Published Wednesday, 5th June 2024To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, HM Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Mrs Sue Snowdon, has issued a message.
D-Day 80th Anniversary.
Today, we honour the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, a defining chapter in history which saw over 150,000 Allied troops storm the beaches of Normandy in “Operation Overlord”.
This landmark event not only changed the course of World War II, but also stands as a testament to unparalleled bravery and sacrifice.
As we reflect on the resilience and unity demonstrated during those critical times it is important that we mark this historic milestone and the enduring lessons it teaches.
D-Day 80 is a national moment and an opportunity for all generations to come together to commemorate and contemplate the sacrifices which underpin the freedoms we enjoy today.
Remembering the sacrifices made during D-Day is essential to understanding the impact of this pivotal moment in history.
