Celebrating Armed Forces Day
Published Monday, 24th June 2024The Hartlepool Armed Forces Liaison group, local Reserve Army units and Cadet detachments are teaming up with the Heugh Battery Museum to celebrate Armed Forces Day 2024 this weekend.
The event will take place from 10am-4pm at the Heugh Battery Museum on Saturday 29th June. The event is open to the public, and entry to both the event and museum will be free.
The official opening ceremony for the day will be at 11am and will include the presentation of a branch standard to the Hartlepool Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club.
The Hartlepool Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club was set up just over five years ago. Since then, it has grown very strongly and recently reached the milestone of 350 members. The group meets every Saturday morning at the Jacksons Wharf pub.
Throughout the day, there will be a variety of equipment displays and activities staged within the Heugh Battery.
These will include detachments from Hartlepool’s new Reserve Army units. The announcement that these new units were coming to Hartlepool was made at last year's Armed Forces Day. This year, they are coming meet the public and show off their equipment and report on their activities.
There will also be display stands from local Cadet units and veterans associations. There will be visiting exhibits provided by historical vehicle and equipment collectors. All the usual exhibits and facilities at the Heugh Battery will be open, including Poppies Café.
During the day, entertainment will also be provided by “Creative Minds”, who will be performing.
Creative Minds CIC is a local charity which aims to provide young people with the opportunities to develop their musical and creative talents.
