Country park retains quality award

Summerhill Country Park in Hartlepool has retained a prestigious international quality award which recognises open spaces meeting the highest possible standards.

The 100-acre site which is run by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Active Hartlepool Service, has once again been awarded Green Flag status.

The Green Flag Awards Scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy and recognises well managed, clean and safe parks and green spaces.

Summerhill has held a Green Flag since 2008.

Councillor Gary Allen, Chair of the Council’s Adult and Community Based Services Committee, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I’d like to congratulate the staff and volunteers at Summerhill whose continuing hard work and commitment make it such a welcoming place.

“The site is a wonderful asset for Hartlepool with its beautiful, natural open spaces and facilities such as the visitor centre and café, cycle track, children’s learn to cycle area, BMX track, boulder climbing park and children’s play areas.”

Summerhill also has a regular programme of events and activities.

Forthcoming activities include:

  • Den building and family fitness; Tuesday 13th August, 10.30am-12.30pm. Cost £3.
  • Children’s archery age 8 years plus; Thursday 15th August, 10am-12pm. Cost £6.85.
  • Woodland games and multi-sports; Tuesday 20th August, 1.30-3.30pm. Cost £3.
  • Children’s archery age 8 years plus; Thursday 29th August, 2-4pm. Cost £6.85.

There is also a number of weekly fitness and exercise sessions which take place in the visitor centre.

Mondays

  • Yoga course, 10.30am (each class lasts 45 minutes). Cost equates to £4 per class.
  • Dancercise course, 12pm (each class lasts 45 minutes). Cost equates £4 per class.

Tuesdays

  • Tone class, 5.30pm (class lasts 90 minutes). Cost £6.

Wednesdays

  • Pilates course, 10am and 11am (each class lasts 45 minutes). Cost equates to £4 per class.
  • Pilates session, 12pm (this class lasts 45 minutes). Cost £4.

Fridays

  • Dancercise course, 12pm (each class lasts 45 minutes). Cost equates to £4 per class.
