Big Lime Triathlon hailed a huge success
Published Wednesday, 14th August 2024Hartlepool’s popular Big Lime Triathlon returned at the weekend in an expanded format and saw a range of people compete, including complete beginners, club and GB athletes.
It took place on Sunday (11th August) in and around Hartlepool Marina and Seaton Carew.
In the past the event has been solely a sprint triathlon, but this year the format was expanded to also include a standard triathlon, an aqua bike race and separate open water swims.
All of the events were managed by Wild Deer Events in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council’s Active Hartlepool service, and they were hailed a huge success.
There were 257 finishers in total – standard triathlon, 84 individuals and three relay teams; standard aqua bike race, four; sprint triathlon, 140 individuals and five relay teams; open water swims, 21.

Councillor Brenda Harrison, the Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council who attended the event, said: “It was a fantastic day blessed with some beautiful weather, and I’m delighted that it was such a huge success. I’d like to congratulate the competitors across all events on their efforts.
“Putting on an event such as this is a real team effort, so I’d like to pay tribute to the event staff and the volunteer marshals, as well as the enthusiastic spectators who created a great atmosphere.
“I would also like to thank residents for their patience and co-operation during the temporary road closures that were required for the smooth-running of the events.”
Medals were presented by Councillor Carole Thompson, Hartlepool’s Ceremonial Mayor.

3. Paul Robson, Wearside Triathlon Club, 02:06:09
Standard Triathlon, female top three:
1. Amy Fuller, 02:18:34 (finished 13th overall)
2. Alex Hemsley, Vector Racing Club, 02:18:46
3. Joyce Mark, Tweed Triathletes, 02:24:25
Sprint Triathlon, male top three:
1. Ellis Murray, Sped Racing Club, 01:03:11
2. Stephen Knight, 01:06:12
3. Chris Jenkins, Hartlepool Triathlon Club, 01:06:22
Sprint Triathlon, female top three:
1. Lindsay Turnbull, Team Woody, 01:11:59 (finished 12th overall)
2. Agatha Skelton, Ocean Lake Triathlon Club, 01:13:44
3. Ellen Tullo, Heaton Harriers, 01:20:01
