Tell us your community safety priorities

Residents of Hartlepool are being asked to highlight their community safety priorities by taking part in a public consultation.

The multi-agency Safer Hartlepool Partnership is running an online survey to help shape a Community Safety Plan for the borough for the period 2024-2027.

It wants to know if local people agree with the four key priorities set out in a draft plan:

  • Anti-social behaviour (including off-road bikes, deliberate fires and fly-tipping).
  • Drugs and alcohol.
  • Domestic violence and abuse.
  • Serious violence.

The partnership is also keen to find out how safe people feel when out and about in Hartlepool, including when socialising on a night out in the town centre and marina areas.

In addition, it is asking people to share their own personal experiences and perceptions of crime and anti-social behaviour, and to disclose whether safety concerns have ever prevented them from doing activities such as going for a walk, visiting the shops, visiting a local park or letting their children play outside.

Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash, Chair of the Safer Hartlepool Partnership, said: “From the anti-social behaviour at our town centre ramp, to the off-road bikes terrorising our communities, to the shop workers turning up to work scared because of the plague of shoplifting, we need to take dramatic action over the next few years to make our town safe and secure for all that live here. This is your chance as a Hartlepool resident to have your say on these priorities going forward because when you’re from Hartlepool, you’re for Hartlepool – so please get involved.”

Councillor Brenda Harrison, the Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “We are facing some big community safety challenges in Hartlepool, but together we really can make a difference. Please take the time to complete the survey, and help us ensure that the policy reflects the needs and aspirations of local people.”

The survey is open until 10th November and can be accessed at https://yoursay.hartlepool.gov.uk/community-safety-strategy-2024-2027
