Published Friday, 23rd May 2025There’s a treat in store for music lovers on Saturday 28th June when some of Hartlepool’s most talented young musicians will be showcased in a concert in Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre.
‘A Celebration of Music’ will feature some of the local young musicians who have received scholarships this year from the town’s Preston Simpson and Sterndale Young Musicians Trust – an educational charity administered by Hartlepool Borough Council.
The event will help raise funds for the Trust, which provides scholarships to young people who either live in or have strong links with Hartlepool to assist them with their musical studies.
On the bill will be the vocal talents of Rose Allen, Emily Barnard and Bridget Krancioch-Daniel, Charlie Edwards on guitar, Will Hartley on bassoon, Jake Haygarth on tenor horn, Elliot Robson on piano and Ava Wright on flute.
Among the pieces which will be performed are Time After Time by Jule Styne, Se Tu M’ami, Se Sospiri by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, YYZ by Rush, Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin, My Days from the musical The Notebook by Ingrid Michaelson and Elegy by Martin Ellerby.
Also on the programme will be Piper o’ Dundee by Kenneth Downie, Somewhere Over The Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz by Harold Arlen, The Worst Pies in London from Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim and Partita for Solo Flute (Bassoon) by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The concert will also feature The Mick Donnelly Academy of Music Samba Band and choirs from local schools.
The scholarships will be presented by Chris Simmons, the Chair of the Trust.
Chris Simmons said: “Come and enjoy superb performances by some of Hartlepool’s finest young musicians, with something for all musical tastes, from classical pieces to songs from the musicals.
“It’s also the perfect opportunity for parents who have child interested in a future in music to bring them along and let them be inspired by today’s marvellous young musicians and the opportunities that the Trust can provide through its grants.”
Councillor Gary Allen, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Adult and Community-Based Services Committee, said: “A Celebration of Music is one of the major highlights in Hartlepool’s cultural calendar, showcasing the cream of our young musical talent and the marvellous role played by the Preston Simpson and Sterndale Young Musicians Trust in supporting and encouraging them.
“Bring your family and friends for an outstanding evening of musical entertainment at an unbeatable ticket price, and help support Hartlepool’s young musicians and the fantastic work of the Trust.”
The show starts at 6.45pm for 7pm. Tickets cost just £5 each. A limited number of free tickets are available for children aged 16 and under – they will be available with the purchase of an adult ticket. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult at the concert.
