New care provider named for Hartlepool retirement village
Published Thursday, 26th June 2025A new company has been commissioned by Hartlepool Borough Council to provide care and support to residents of Hartfields Retirement Village.
Radis Community Care will assume responsibility for care provision from 7th July, taking over from the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) care team.
JRHT developed the Retirement Village with Hartlepool Borough Council and provided the care and support for a number of years until JRHT made the decision to withdraw from providing care services, allowing JRHT to fully focus on delivering high quality housing and support.
Hartfields has 242 homes and residents living there can receive care and support from on-site carers to enable them to live independently in their own home.
Established in 2001, Radis is a leading provider of community-based social care and support for vulnerable adults across England and Wales. Operating over 90 locations, it helps thousands of individuals to live independently at home.
With a commitment to person-centred care, Radis offers a range of services, including extra care, home care, supported living and respite care, all designed to meet the needs of each individual.
Hartlepool Borough Council involved Hartfields residents and their families in the process of selecting the new care provider and hosted a ‘meet and greet’ event giving residents, their families and staff opportunity to meet the Radis team and ask any questions.
As part of the transition, existing care staff from JRHT are being offered the opportunity to transfer to Radis, ensuring continuity and support for both staff and residents.
Jill Harrison, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Executive Director of Adult and Community-Based Services, said: “Our key priority has been to ensure that the residents who currently receive care continue to be supported to live independently in their own homes, and to that end we were delighted to appoint Radis, which has a very strong track record.
“We are working closely with Radis and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust to ensure a smooth transition for both residents and the continued provision of quality services.”
Julie Wales, Regional Manager at Radis Community Care, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and Hartlepool Borough Council at Hartfields Retirement Village.
“Our aim is always to help and assist people to remain as independent as possible.
“The excellent on-site care team will continue to deliver bespoke plans suited to everyone, ensuring that everyone gains the flexible care, help and support they need, as and when they need it.”
Chris Simpson, Managing Director of Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, said: “We are working closely with Hartlepool Borough Council and Radis to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition for residents, as well as for the dedicated care staff who will be transferring to Radis.
“I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the teams at Hartfields, who have continued to deliver outstanding care and shown unwavering commitment to residents throughout this period of change.”
