Big Lime Triathlon hailed huge success

Hartlepool’s annual Big Lime Triathlon returned at the weekend and proved to be a huge success.

Organised by Hartlepool Borough Council in partnership with Wild Deer Events, it took place in and around the Marina and Seaton Carew and saw a range of people compete, including novices, club  and GB athletes. 

There were 276 finishers in total across a series of competitive options – the standard triathlon, 102 individuals and one relay team; the standard aqua bike event, five; the sprint triathlon, 138 individuals and seven relay teams; the sprint aqua bike event, 8; the open water swims, 15.

The main results were as follows:

Standard Triathlon, male top three: 

  • Matthew Alderson, 1.59.43
  • Stephen Knight, 2.02.18
  • Liam Walshaw, 2.02.53

Standard Triathlon, female top three: 

  • Fran Bell, 2.18.39 (12th overall)
  • Sarah Watts, 2.21.11 (16th overall) 
  • Lucy Crookes, 2.21.29 (17th overall)

Sprint Triathlon, male top three: 

  • Mika Brown, 1.04.18
  • Keith Murray, 1.07.06
  • Stuart Wright, 1.07.10 

Sprint Triathlon, female top three: 

  • Lindsay Turnbull, 1.11.15 (10th overall) 
  • Agatha Skelton, 1.12.02 (11th overall)
  • Sarah Atwood, 1.15.27 (17th overall)

Councillor Brenda Harrison, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “I was delighted to attend and I would like to congratulate all of the athletes on their amazing efforts.

“It is also important to recognise the work of the volunteer marshals who gave up their time to help ensure that everything ran smoothly.

“Finally, I would like to say thank you to those spectators who turned out and created a fantastic atmosphere and the residents impacted by road closures for their patience and co-operation.”
