A POPULAR approach road to a Hartlepool car park has reopened following major repair work.

Hartlepool Borough Council has been carrying out resurfacing work to the approach road to the North Gare car park, which was previously in a poor condition.

The road - which is owned by Hartlepool Borough Council but has not been adopted - crosses the Seaton Common Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest and Teesmouth National Nature Reserve.

A sub-base of recycled material has been laid to stabilise and raise the level of the surface in the worst area and tarmac has been laid to complete the repairs to this section. Potholes have also been repaired along the full stretch of the road.

Before and after

Chris Scaife, Hartlepool Council’s Countryside Access Officer, said: “I am sure visitors will be delighted with the improved access to the North Gare car park.

“I’d like to thank the two contractors Tarmac and Tangent. The standard of the work they have carried out is very high and there shouldn’t be any need for any further major repairs to be carried out for some considerable time.

“The road is now so much smoother for visitors coming to enjoy the wildlife, the beach, the extensive dune system and the magnificent views on offer.”
