THERE’S an evening of musical magic in store when two popular Hartlepool choirs come together again for a special event to raise funds for good causes.

Hartlepool Male Voice Choir and Hartlepool Ladies’ Choir will perform together in a concert in the town’s Borough Hall on Saturday 1 April at 7pm.

The money raised will go to the Great North Air Ambulance and Bloodwise which Councillor Rob Cook, the Mayor of Hartlepool, has chosen to support during his year in office.

On the packed programme will be a wide range of popular songs including The Impossible Dream, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Lean On Me.

Hartlepool Male Voice Choir had its beginnings in the late 1950s and has performed in a number of prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Sheffield Arena and Durham Cathedral.

Hartlepool Ladies’ Choir has been hitting the high notes since 2002 and it was actually the wives of some members of Harltlepool Male Voice Choir who were responsible for the formation of the ladies' group.

Speaking about the Mayor’s Charity Choral Spectacular, Councillor Rob Cook said: “Brenda and I hope lots of people will attend this fantastic event which is sure to be a night of enjoyment for music lovers of all ages.

“I’d also like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to both choirs for organising this special event and helping to raise money for two worthwhile causes.

“It will be a particularly special night for me as I’m actually a member of Hartlepool Male Voice Choir. However, on this occasion I’m going to sit back and enjoy being entertained.”

Tickets for the show cost £10 (or £8 for concessions) and are available from Hartlepool Art Gallery in Church Square on (01429) 890000.

Tickets are also available at www.destinationhartlepool.com or by calling Members’ Services in the Civic Centre on (01429) 523702/523704.
