REMINDER: Residents urged to vote

Published Thursday, 4th May 2017

Residents in Hartlepool are being encouraged to make their voices heard.

It comes as two important elections are being held today (Thursday 4 May).

Residents urged to vote

There is a by-election to elect a Hartlepool Councillor for the Headland & Harbour Ward and an election for the Tees Valley Mayor.

A devolution deal agreed with central government means important powers and funding will be transferred from London to the Tees Valley.

Peter Devlin, Hartlepool Council’s Returning Officer, said: “It is so important that people use their vote in these elections.

“The by-election in the Headland & Harbour Ward provides an opportunity for electors to influence decisions about services at a local level through the election of a Councillor to represent the people of this Ward on the Borough Council.

“There will also be the election of a Tees Valley Mayor on the 4 May who will have a key role including influence over opportunities for young people, provision of transport infrastructure, rail and bus services plus attracting new jobs and investment in the Tees Valley area.

“The democratic process in our country exists to give people a voice and I hope that those eligible to vote take the opportunity on Thursday.”
