Step into summer fun at Hartlepool libraries

CHILDREN can access a whole host of creative fun events at Hartlepool’s libraries this summer, many of which are free to enjoy.

Cake decorating classes, a mobile planetarium, exploding science workshops and themed craft sessions are just some of the activities on the packed programme to keep children entertained over the summer holiday break.

Children taking part are encouraged to read six or more books over summer. They can look forward to fun incentives as they reach key reading milestones along the way, and those who complete the challenge are invited to attend a special medal and certificate ceremony at the end of the summer holiday break.

Heather Bellwood, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Children’s and Outreach Librarian, says: “We are excited to host a fun-filled calendar of events at our branch and central libraries this summer. "We hope to encourage Hartlepool children of all ages to come along and experience our range of hands-on activities, as well as take part in our hugely popular Summer Reading Challenge.”

All library events are free unless otherwise stated. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult and places at some of the events must be booked in advance where indicated.

Monday 24 July – 11am - 12noon – Cozzmic Cakes Cake Decorating Workshop. Suitable for children aged 5+, must be accompanied by an adult. £2 per child, BOOKING ESSENTIAL.

Monday 31 July – 10.15am - 2.30pm – Mobile Planetarium. Go on a journey across the galaxy see how amazing the night sky truly is! Bookable half hour sessions across the day. Suitable for children aged 3+, must be accompanied by an adult. £1 per person.

Thursday 3 August – 1pm - 2pm – Zoolab Animal Whodunnit. Come along and meet some fascinating and very real animals. For children aged 2+, must be accompanied by an adult. £2 per child, BOOKING ESSENTIAL.

Monday 7 August – 10.30am - 12noon – Exploding Science Workshop.  Prepare to be wowed with tornado canon shooting and some extremely loud explosions! For children aged 5+, must be accompanied by an adult. £5 per child, BOOKING ESSENTIAL.
