SEE through the eyes of a bee at an exhibition of unique work set to go on display at Hartlepool Art Gallery next month.

The FREE exhibition – which opens on Saturday 5 August and runs until Saturday 23 September, 10am to 5pm daily in the Apse Gallery – features the work of Hartlepool-based artist Julie Cockburn, whose artwork has previously been on display all over the UK, Cyprus and Japan.

Her latest collection, ‘Unstitching the Invisible’, features a collection of hive-like structures created using a 3Doodles pen and rigid ink.

Julie created the ‘giant apiaries’ by building hexagonal shapes through a repetitive process, into and around household objects, such as a chair or a table. The space within these structures becomes corrupt, an abject form, in liminal space.

The artist will be available in the Apse Gallery every Thursday between 10.30am and 4.30pm during the exhibition to meet with visitors and talk about her work.

Visitors also have the opportunity to attend two workshops lead by the artist on Thursday 17 August where they can learn more about 3D filament ink and create their own works of art.

Julie Cockburn, who moved to Hartlepool three years ago and runs her own established studio in the town, said: “I am delighted to once again be given the opportunity to show my body of work in the Apse area at Hartlepool Art Gallery, which provides the perfect environment for my bee-inspired creations.”

Hartlepool Art Gallery is located in Church Square and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. To book a workshop space, please call 01429 869706.
