It’s good to share!
Published Friday, 29th September 2017RESIDENTS of Hartlepool travelling by car are being urged to share their vehicles with others wherever possible.
The Hartlepool Council-led Hartlepool Active Travel Hub, which promotes sustainable forms of travel, says car-sharing is an effective way of reducing the number of vehicles on the road, traffic congestion and air pollution.

The appeal has been issued ahead of Liftshare Week, a national initiative that this year will run from October 2-8.
Tony Davison, Hartlepool Council’s Sustainable Travel Officer who co-ordinates the work of the hub, said: “Car-sharing can save individuals money by reducing travel costs. It also provides a sustainable option for neighbourhoods that have poor public transport links and it can help to foster a sense of community.
“The development of smart-phone technology and on-line booking systems has made it easier than ever to benefit from car-sharing schemes and there are a number of options available.
“It only takes two people to car share but obviously the benefits increase as the number of sharers increases.”
Car-sharing schemes include ID verification and security checks so that people are confident to use them, and schemes can vary from offering one-off lifts to events or regular journeys to and from work.
Hartlepool has its own “car-club” that operates as part of the national Co-wheels programme. There are two vehicles based in the town centre available for use when you join the scheme. Contact www.co-wheels.org.uk/hartlepool or (01429) 806400.
