The Approved Code of Practice gives practical advice on how to comply with respect of those specific matters on which the Code gives advice.  You may use alternative methods to those set out in the Code in order to comply with the law.

However; the Code has special legal status.  If you are prosecuted for breach of health and safety law, and it is proved that you did not follow the relevant provision of the Code, you will need to show that you have complied with the law in some other way or a Court will find you at fault.

Using the services of the Consultancy Services Team will ensure that all regulations and legal requirements are met.

Softener servicing and disinfection:

In line with Table 2.1, HSG274 Part 2 (pages 31-33) these units should be inspected monthly and serviced annually.  This monthly service visit will continue and disinfection will occur annually as a minimum.

Water softener servicing for 2024/25 will be carried out by a third party contractor on behalf of HBC. A full report will be available when work has been completed.
