Church Street Grants Scheme

What was the Scheme?

A grant scheme ran from 2017 providing assistance to property owners focused on retention and reinstatement of historic architectural details to buildings as well as supporting repairs to ensure the sustainable future use of buildings in the conservation area and the enhancement of the historic environment.

Grants were offered at 75% of the costs of the works to businesses or property owners looking to make their properties structurally sound, watertight, and repair and restore traditional details.  Works including any professional advice that may be required, along with;

  • Traditional shop fronts
  • Traditional Windows and Doors
  • Balustrades and other architectural details
  • Render
  • New roofs
  • Traditional Signage

Two properties have taken advantage of the grant support offered.  These were,

No. 75 Church Street which used assistance to carry out structural works to the building and restore traditional windows and a shop front to the property.

Newly renovated shop front. Two new large windows either side of a new central door. Building is terraced and historic flats/offices are located above. Shop front is painted black on the ground floor. The name 'Busby's' is engraved in the windows.

 

Nos. 22 – 23 which used funding to carry out a comprehensive restoration scheme to restore the building including addressing structural issues and dampness internally and restoring traditional details externally, including sliding sash windows and repairs to the shop front.
