Am I eligible to claim

To be eligible to claim Pension Age Council Tax Support you must meet the following requirements

  • you or your partner must be eligible to claim State Retirement Pension
  • you must be liable to pay Council Tax for your property
  • you must live in the property as your main home
  • you must have less than £16,000 in savings and capital, unless you are in receipt of guarantee pension credit (capital includes property, shares and investments).

You could receive help of up to 100% of your Council Tax bill depending upon you (and any partners) income and savings and who else lives with you.

Second Adult Rebate

Second adult rebate is help with your Council Tax if you are pension age and share you home with one or more other adults who are not your husband, wife, partner or civil partner and they are on a low income.

You may qualify if the other adult or adults who live with you are

  • over 18 years
  • do not pay council tax themselves
  • do not pay you rent
  • are not joint owners or tenants
  • have a low income

.When you apply for council tax support we will automatically consider second adult rebate, you will receive whichever gives you the most support. The maximum amount of second adult rebate you can receive is 25%.
