Families in Hartlepool don’t want to miss an exciting weekend of multisport running alongside a jam-packed calendar of fun.

People are being urged to support all events across the Big Lime Weekend, running from Friday 16 August to Sunday 18 August.

Family beach activities will kick off the weekend on Friday at Seaton Carew from 4pm, ahead of the first of the sporting events at 7pm – a 750m open water swim event at the Marina.

For those ready to dance the night away, Bands at Bingo is an adults only night of live music and the chance to win big, taking place at Mecca Bingo from 8pm.

The next day (Saturday 17) will see competitors take on the Aquathlon event. Kicking off at 9am, entrants will battle through a 750m open water swim before taking on a 5km run.

The fun won’t stop there – sailing taster sessions, stand up paddle boarding and sea safaris are just some of the activities on offer around Maritime Avenue, Jacksons Dock and Seaton Promenade ahead of the Pasta Party  at Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club, where tired athletes and hungry families can refuel at 6pm.

The Sunday Triathlon event will start at 8am, comprising of a 750m open water swim in Jacksons Dock next to Historic Quay, before a 20km cycle on mostly flat, closed roads. The event will round off with a 5km run, with the town’s marina and neighbouring Seaton Carew providing the backdrops.

Once competitors have enjoyed a quick post-event shower and change at either Mill House Leisure Centre or Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club, people are invited to the Church Street area where a trained instructor will take everyone through a Rock and Recover race cool down session at 12pm ahead of the post-race party celebrations, happening across Chilli Cake Deli and Hops and Cheese.

Ryan Houghton, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Senior Sport and Physical Activity Coordinator, said: “There really is so much going on across the Big Lime Weekend for sports competitors and families alike, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy a whole host of exciting activities.

“Visitors can cheer on competitors from the side-lines before taking part in fun runs, trying out taster sailing sessions, beach activities, sea safaris and so much more.

“All multisport events are open to both experienced athletes as well as those completely new to the sports, and the weekend is expected to be just as popular this year so make sure you book your entry to avoid disappointment.”

All finishers will receive a medal in addition to a buff for the Aquathlon and tops for the Triathlon.
