6.1.6  Please provide any brief additional information you consider helpful in explaining your approach to maintaining footways and cycleways.

All footways across the borough are inspected at least every six months and deteriorating lengths of 200m or so are generally highlighted by the inspectors as a possible resurfacing scheme whether actionable defects are recorded or not. Segregated cycleways, which do not form part of the adopted highway, are not generally routinely inspected but will be visited promptly upon receiving complaints from members of the public whereupon an inspection will be carried out and work raised where required.

6.1.7 Evidence summary

Current budget levels for Hartlepool tend not to easily give way to regular footway resurfacing schemes being implemented and we currently either utilise other available grants or focus on smaller lengths to resurface. Two such lengths of footway have been earmarked out of a non specific highways grant and are awaiting agreement from cabinet members before they can be implemented. Based upon the latter – Hartlepool BC have undertaken one such scheme last year and hopes to do at least two more this current financial year.
