8.1.7 Evidence summary
8.1.3 – Highways Inspectors all have up to date RASWA accreditation and have received formal inspection training which is refreshed periodically. Hartlepool BC holds a number of Engineering roles linked directly to Highways Asset Management (Highways, Drainage, landscaping etc) and are suitably qualified to HNC or Degree level. Apprentices within the function are actively encouraged to progress onto either a degree or HNC level once completing the apprentice programme. One former Apprentice is currently studying a part time degree having recently come through the modern apprentice route. Two former Engineers within the Engineering Team (Highways / Drainage) are now employed as Director / Assistance Director for the department. The Asset Management Team Leader is educated to degree level within an Engineering discipline.
8.1.8 Further context on skills/training (optional)
Hartlepool Borough Council previously employed a Chartered Structural Engineer but that position became vacant due to retirement. HBC are actively looking to fill the role once more but in the meantime make use of various external consultancy services when the need arises.
