Early Years CPD
ICAN Early Talk Boost (Ref: CASKEYTB) Various training options available

Early Talk Boost is a targeted intervention developed by the communication charity, ICAN. The intervention is designed for children aged 3-4 with language delay, typically those who have intact language learning ability in themselves but for some reason haven't had the opportunity to develop age-appropriate language skills. The programme is delivered by a trained early years practitioner, 3 times a week for 9 weeks, to a group of up to 8 children aged 3-4 years old. It includes a workshop for parents. On average children make 6 months progress after the nine week intervention, helping them to catch up with other children their age.
Early Talk Boost supports key language skills:
- Attention and listening: foundations for speaking and listening
- Learning new words: children with weaker vocabularies are at risk of difficulties with literacy
- Building sentences: a vital skill for conversation and narrative development
Early Talk Boost training will cover:
- the importance of early language skills
- the rationale behind the Early Talk Boost intervention
- how to identify children for the intervention using the Early Talk Boost Tracker
- content and deliver of the intervention
Target audience: Early years practitioners
Resource costs: The Early Talk Boost toolkit costs £450
