Legal Services

The Legal Services Division has a highly experienced in-house team, providing high-quality legal advice. With specialist knowledge and extensive experience of working with schools and academies, we can support you with a wide range of legal issues. Our flexible, responsive and cost effective service means that governing bodies and senior leaders in schools can operate with confidence. The objectives of the Division are to provide accurate, prompt and effective advice and representation to assist schools and academies to deliver their statutory responsibilities.

 

We are able to provide legal support and will:

  • Respond to all telephone calls within one working day
  • Deal with all routine correspondence within 10 working days (unless the matter is considered urgent when a response will be provided the same day)
  • During normal office hours a lawyer will be able to assist/advise
  • Offer a value for money service 

 

The Legal Services Division can provide advice and representation in relation to the following areas of specialism:

Education Law (School Admissions/Exclusions/SEND/Governance)

Social Services Law (Children and Adults)

Conveyancing and Land Development

Civil and Criminal Law

Employment Law

Highways

Housing Law

Planning and Environmental Law

Data Protection/Freedom of Information

 

This Service Level Agreement covers the provision of legal advice and representation in relation to the above areas.  Where the needs of your School/Academy require a bespoke service, that service is available at an additional charge. For example in assisting in drafting and advising upon complex legal documents and representation in court and tribunals.  For details of these additional charges, please see contact details.

The Legal Division can also provide a clerking service for School Admission/Exclusion hearings (see Education Services for further details).
