Is this service only for drug users?

No, The service supports any substance-related issues, including alcohol.

Where is START based?

17 Whitby Street, Hartlepool. Staff are also based in Community Hub Central in York Road on a daily basis.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointments to support me? 

Yes.

Will I be put on the spot and asked to sit in a circle if I come to START for help?

No. START offers a personal, needs-led service and the image of people sitting in a circle declaring themselves to be addicts - as often shown on TV - is NOT  representative of the way we operate.

Do I have to wait weeks or months for an appointment?

No. We offer an easy-access-to treatment package of support.

Do I have to wait weeks or months for a prescription?

No. The START clinical team will assess needs and prescribe if safe to do so. START will always liaise with your GP for safe prescribing.
